Come celebrate 2019's final First Thursday Artwalk with Gallery AXIS, as we host "Transitions;" a Visual Arts Group Exhibition featuring two of Seattle's own, Damon Maxwell and Leslie Bennett. || As 2019 comes to an end, Gallery AXIS invites you to explore these thought provoking bodies of work expressing both the relationship between materials and movement in three-dimensional form, and the intricacy of mixed media on canvas. Maxwell and Bennett execute the very "Transitions" we experience with art, emotional expression, and the closing of another beautiful year. || Leslie Bennett's work is inspired by the interplay between fluidity and rigidity; capturing a moment to make that dynamic permanent or releasing it to welcome something new and appreciating both. By using found and recycled materials in her work, she celebrates what normally would be discarded and shares her vision that everything has the ability to transform. Bennett's work was selected as part of the Eileen Fisher Chop Challenge on exhibit at Columbia City Gallery, and In 2018, her work was chosen for Bremerton's Collective Visions Gallery juried art competition and exhibited at Fremont's Saturn building. || Damon Maxwell’s art is a bold, bright and unapologetic celebration of life itself. While evoking the aggressive mark making of some of the early Abstract Expressionists such as Willem DeKooning and Franz Kline, Maxwell’s fresh palette also conjures such current contemporaries as Brian Rutenburg as well. His love of the human figure is central, and it is not uncommon to find subtle suggestions of its form amidst even the most abstract of Maxwell’s works. His underlying philosophy about creating art can be summed up by his statement “If my work doesn’t move me, how can I expect it to move anyone else?” Maxwell received his BFA from the University of California at Santa Barbara and has shown extensively throughout the Northwest. Damon has been the recipient of various honors and awards including the Liquitex Excellence in Art Award. He is also included in numerous public and private collections as well. Damon currently resides in Enumclaw, WA and works from his home studio. || || Featured Artists || Damon Maxwell Leslie Bennett
