Come celebrate the First Pioneer Square Artwalk of 2020 on a special JAN 9th (second Thursday) with Gallery AXIS, as we host "Deep Listening;" a Visual Arts Group Exhibition featuring Meg Yates and Uyen Tran Gjerde ||
Meg Yates “Deep Listening” is a group of works from my daily painting practice, along with smaller collections that reflect my inquiry into Contemplative Art Approach, which I have been developing for over 14 years intersecting facets of monasticism and creativity. A main tenant of this approach is that how we make is as important as what we make. Breath, physical presence, connection with inner life, pause, deep listening and action taken from this stance influences both product and experience of the process. I am fascinated and motivated by the generative quality of experience gained by daily engagement with creative process, and value the impact of this body of work not only in artistic technique and skill, but additionally the inner fortitude gained through the stability of my practice which has seen me through illness, divorce and loss. It doesn’t have to be “good”, Or beautiful, Or adored. The aim is to be willing to go within, to be lead within even - and also to emerge with agency to express something of what was discovered there, that which is often beyond words. || Uyen Tran Gjerde My inspiration comes from everywhere and sometimes out of nowhere. I mostly find human connections and the relationships people with their environments they create fascinating. The moments I capture are often in between the main events. What’s hidden and not in plain view. ||
