Amanda Szopinski ::"8 o'clock moment":: Performing Ladies of Valtesse :: Music by :: Sonic Shiva It is in her organic approach of painting from the colors of our waters and coastlines that brings attention to the beauty and nourishment that nature provides for our existence. With thin washes of paint staining the canvas and creating the depths of the sea, she urges us to look through the layers of convenience & ignorance in our daily lives in order to make choices that will protect our sea, our land, our nature, & our lives. The plastic in the oceans not only destroys the wildlife, but continues to cause devastation to our health. 90% of the US coastlines have been opened up for oil drilling and this beauty, this nourishment we need, will cease to exist. This is a time for change, awareness, and action to clean up the oceans and keep them alive. How deep is your love?

Alex Achaval & Brooke Westlund ::"8 o'clock moment":: By Jack Fool :: Music by :: 6:30 Live Music by Olivia De La Cruz Alex Achaval My work can be described in many different categories but I would simply define it as contemporary portraiture. An added uncharacteristic element or found object can also be seen throughout my work such as the “paintbrush girl” series where I take classic wooden brushes and apply them onto the canvas or wood panel before I begin. This series of 3d painting was adapted after seeing an old truck that someone had painted to blend in with the wall behind it in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. I like to incorporate these objects into my work to represent the obstacles we have to overcome in life. You have to either paint over it like it was never there or embrace it. Not to mention it challenges me, it works well and it’s fun! You can see me at goodwill or Value Village with my hands full of the weirdest combination of objects. I try to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based only on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations. I believe that is what art is all about. Your own associations. "I simply love to paint and create something that will live forever, and that something is usually pretty bizarre." Brooke Westlund Exploring her love of life and all that it encompasses: texture, simplicity, complexity, movement, color, spontaneity, awareness. Brooke’s mixed media abstract paintings show her world through each moment she spends on the studio creating. Brooke Westlund uses many different techniques and materials to create her abstract paintings. Different typed of paints, transparent photographs, dry pigment powders, stamps, encyclopedia cut outs, ribbon, etc. She blends them with big brushstrokes, splatters, drips, bold colors. The result of her time spent in the studio, the paintings, are her way of sharing her love of life with the world. The outcome of Brooke’s time spent in her studio in Pike Place Market with her many eclectic materials, her music, and ideas are the mixed media abstract paintings that share her love of life and practice of being in the moment. On the paintings..... "they are composed of many different moments of their own layered upon one another, there is a certain point where the painting seems finished but really it is just time to move onto a different stage in its life, in fact each painting continues to change each moment as more and more people experience it, it is ever evolving. It changes depending on where it is hung at the time and who walks by. Even if you see the painting in a bar for a second as you walk by you had a moment with it and so you and the painting each contributed to each others lives even in a tiny way. This process of being in the moment is how we should view our lives, not being attached to any one moment but just moving along. Not worrying about the future or the past." :: Featuring Art by ::

"An exhibition of fantastic art from the perspective of cyclical time, where an infinite loop of disintegration and re-creation defines the perpetually flourishing plexus of all life, and conscious connection with this amalgam of vitality inspires fearless and loving participation in its glorious evolution." ::: Original artworks by ::: Alfredo Arreguin, Carrie Ann Baade, Kim Evans, William Fahey, Don Farrell, Ernst Fuchs (1930-2015), Andrew Gonzalez, Mark Henson, David Heskin, Martina Hoffmann, Patrick McGrath Muñiz, Brigid Marlin, Otto Rapp, Amanda Sage, Roku Sasaki, Marlene Seven Bremner, Autumn Skye, Carol Spicuzza, Liba WS, Miguel Tio and Aloria Weaver. Our ego eschews the ever-unfolding obsolescence of what "I" thought "I" was, overlooking the promise of what We will become. But the withered flower swells into fruit, which turns to seed that falls into the decomposed remains of all that has lived before it. Nurtured through the long, dark winter until coaxed forth from this fertile underworld by the warmth of vernal awakening, it reaches toward the sun to flourish again. Creation and re-creation are reflected in all the ancient calendars, whose authors perceived time as an infinite repetition of cycles within cycles. At the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012, many people projected apocalyptic implications upon its meaning, though a new calendar had already begun. The serpent devours its tail. Now, at the beginning of time, we find our way back, from fear to love, before the insatiable, unsustainable "I", to reconnect with and participate in the perpetual glory of all creation." Cézanne, one of the great Modern painters sought to continually disintegrate one’s point of view into a series of relationships – one brushstroke in relation to the next, and the relationships between objects in space. In doing this, Cézanne evolved the definition of art to include abstraction. Today, Shift Curator and Cézanne Scholar, Liz Patterson, asks that you discover the relationships between the works shown here, using Cézanne’s methods as a determining link. Four methods are presented: figure and ground inversion, realism & materiality, color modulation, and facets. Shift Gallery is a Contemporary artist-run gallery located in Seattle, and theartists of this venue are unique in that they operate with full autonomy. The nature of Shift Gallery allows for artists to evolve in any way that they wish and the gallery is treated as a blank canvas, as a possibility space. In this way, Shift Gallery is an ever-evolving artistic environment, the results of which can be seen here today. Revelation Road-trip
